The Radio Service has now ceased, we hope to be back in 2025
Live Radio has made it’s debut at the Show!
So, having attended last year’s show in a voluntary capacity, I wondered if, along with my team, we could run an online station for the benefit of those attending the show and to promote it to those who might like to attend and thanks to the organisers of the event we have been allowed to do just that.
So, for the first time in the show’s long and illustrious history, myself and my team of dedicated volunteers will be bringing something different to this year’s show and a real flavour of what’s happening by providing visitors to it with the latest weather, travel and parking information as well as filling the online airwaves with some great music and chat, games and quizzes, as well as news from around the showground, interviews with stall holders, exhibitors and the public too.
As there’s so much going on at this years’ event, we’ll be ‘on the air’ in June with all the build up to the show and live from our own purpose-built studio on the show site during the show weekend, where you can join in the fun and request your favourite song to be played.

RADIO Presenter Biographies
Richard Smith
Producer/Lead Presenter
Hello there I’m Richard Smith, an Honorary member of Nottingham Hospitals Radio and former Station Manager at Radio Robin (Ilkeston Community Hospital Radio).
I have over 35 years of programming, broadcasting and station management experience behind me and will be bringing all that to entertain and inform listeners to Royal Lancashire Show Radio this June and July.
I have been producing and presenting a regular programme on more than 100 Hospital Radio stations in the UK and Ireland since the summer of 2004 called The A to Z of Pop which has proved to be one of the most successful concepts in the Hospital Radio world.
A lot of people ask me what my taste in music is, it’s a really difficult question to answer as it changes on an almost daily basis. But anything that gets people engaged with a song, a memory perhaps, a singalong or dance, music has this wonderful ability to change our mood, so, in short, I like all types of music really as it all means something to someone.
I’m really looking forward to being able to bring the flavour of this incredible event to our listeners so I hope that you can join us on Royal Lancashire Show Radio this June, July!
Oliver Stables

Hello I’m Oli Stables I’ve been involved in various Radio Stations for more than 20 Years.
I started an online internet station, Radio RSP, with a friend in 2001 and then revived that station in 2022. In the same year as starting that station I started volunteering at a Hospital Radio station in North Yorkshire where I stayed for 20 years.
I have also been part of a number of other stations over the years in Harrogate and York and even as far as the Lakes.
Richard Smith told me about this project he was working on and couldn’t wait to get involved and the rest is history.
I’m very excited to be getting involved with the Royal Lancashire show and doing one of the things I love doing – making brilliant radio and that’s getting out and about and talking to people.
So please do tune into our station.
Matthew Rolland
Presenter/Interviewer
Matthew has been involved in radio since September 2010 when he joined Hospital Radio Reading. During his time at the station, Matthew has presented request shows, playing songs and giving dedications to the patients in the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
He has also spent the last 10 years interviewing famous faces from the worlds of music, TV, radio, film and even sports. Celebrities whom he has had the pleasure of interviewing include Lorraine Kelly, Chesney Hawkes, Chris Tarrant, Deborah Meaden, Hugh Bonneville, Steve Wright, Ken Bruce, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and even had the honour of being invited to interview the lovely Debbie McGee at her home in Berkshire and was invited to New Broadcasting House to interview Greg James in the BBC Radio 1 studios.
Matthew has also presented alongside Richard Smith and the team for various different projects over the years since 2017 on The Big Broadcast and The Sunday Social – programmes which are broadcast live across the UK Hospital Radio network.
His day job, which he has been doing for the last year and a half, is as an Administrator for the Asset Management team for Paccar Financial based in Buckinghamshire.
Steve Coulby
Presenter/Interviewer
I’m a relative newcomer to radio having started in it during 2019, volunteering for Nottingham Hospitals Radio. Through large parts of the COVID periods I was the sole presenter on the station doing multiple shows per week and covering the studio for sports coverage.
Hospital broadcasting is a very British tradition and I soon found myself the focus of international media attention for the work that they do, appearing in Newspapers and TV around the world.
As we rebuild the station post COVID I have received an award for innovation in Hospital Radio and the volunteer of the year award from the hospital trust.
I continue to build the station as its Programme Controller and am always looking for opportunities to learn more about radio, hence being involved with Richard and the team on Royal Lancashire Show Radio.
Craig Robinson
Technical Operations
Craig has been involved in hospital broadcasting since 1993 and currently volunteers for Prince Bishops Hospital Radio in County Durham.
Craig currently co-presents the longest running programme on PBHR, The Sunday Selection which has been going for 29 years.
An invaluable member of the team, you can usually find Craig in the background working on technical solutions to make the programmes more accessible for the patients.
He has installed computer systems and networks for more than a dozen hospital radio services in the UK.
The more obscure the venue, or more challenging the environment the better!
Over the years in hospital broadcasting he has helped programmes be broadcast from the middle of fields, pop concerts, church halls and has even broadcast whilst participating in a half marathon, so helping us broadcast from The Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show 2024 will be right up his street.
